What will your day at the MSF DIRTBIKE SCHOOL be like?
First you’ll push motorcycles in mud up to your knees for three hours. At this point, I will have evaluated your physical capabilities and we will then push on to the intricacies of keeping a dirtbike in showbike condition by cleaning your bike with a toothbrush for four hours. That adds up to seven hours, right?
If you’re not exhausted from just thinking about those seven hours, we’ll now talk about what really goes on at an MSF DIRTBIKE SCHOOL.
The first thing we do is to give your bike a pre-ride inspection at 8:30 AM. This helps insure you have a trouble free day at the DirtBike School and teaches you how to check your bike before riding so you will have multitudes of days unmarred by mechanical failures. You’re next in the inspection process. Let’s see. Helmet, goggles, longsleeves, full-fingered gloves, long pant’s and sturdy over-the-ankle footwear. You’re looking like you came to ride now. Good gear helps insure your safety.
We’re burning daylight and we’ve got about 19 exercises to perform. After we cover bike preparation, introductions, range signals, range rules and warm-up stretches, we introduce you to your motorcycle, mounting that steed, it’s controls, the correct operation of those controls and how to get off that thing when your butt gets sore.
Are you ready? Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! You’ll learn the starting procedure for your motorcycle. Next we’ll learn moving the bike, shifting, using body control to manipulate the bike, turning, a safe riding strategy, counterbalancing, surmounting obstacles, hill skills, a safe riding strategy and some environmental awareness. Tread lightly! Watch: Riding tips from AMA Supercross stars Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed and Kevin Windham accompany footage of hands-on training lessons in this 6 minute overview of the new one-hour DirtBike School DVD.
